Spiritual Question of the Day: Is there an animal that you have a spiritual connection with? What animal is it and does it appear often in your life or your dreams? 🐍🕷🦉🦌🦇🦋
I’ve been working with my new Luminous Void deck lately. I like how the designs are a combination of bright playful images interspersed with some slightly disturbing characters. I’m in love with the creepy high priestess card. I think it really captures the shadow side of this archetype. It also kind of reminds me of the artist Odilon Redon. What are your thoughts?
Cleaning out that old energy because… It’s Libra season baby. ♎️ Happy Autumn Equinox everyone! 🍁
This video shows how to cast a circle in the Wiccan practice. In a future video I will go over how to Lay a Compass, which is a traditional witchcraft version of creating sacred space.
What is a Magic Circle?
- A magic circle is an energetic construct that you create or envision around yourself before working magic, doing a ritual, or sometimes even meditating.
- For a single magic worker or solitary witch, it’s usually around 5 or 6 feet in diameter, but the size expands based on the size of a group.
- Sometimes, the circle is defined by something in the physical world, such as a ring of candles or scarves, or perhaps just symbolic items at the four cardinal points.
What is the purpose of a Magic Circle?
- It separates the mundane space from a sacred space. Churches/temples are already a sacred space.
- It serves as a container for your personal energy as well as the energy you conjure.
- It provides protection. You cast it with the intention that only positive energies may enter or dwell within. This way, when you open yourself up to the energetic realm, you need not worry about picking up any unwanted energies or currents.
How to Cast a Magic Circle?
- Find a flat, somewhat open space – indoors or out – where you won’t be disturbed.
- Find the four cardinal directions using a compass (there is probably one on your smart phone). OPTIONAL: Place a simple representation of each of the four elements at each corresponding point around an imagined circle. Earth/north, Air/east, Fire/south, Water/west.
- Go to the center of the circle for a moment to take a couple deep breaths and calm your mind.
- Turn toward East, pause and say, “I call the Guardian of East and the element of Air to watch over this sacred circle.” Then go clockwise to South for fire, West for Water, and end at North for Air. Another, simpler option is to start at the east and walk clockwise in a circle three times while you envision the creation of a circle.
- When done go to the center and raise arms up and down to form your circle into a more dimensional bubble.
How to Release a Circle
- When you are ready, stand up, facing East and say, “Thank you, Guardian, go in peace and love.” Face the North, West, and finally South, saying the same words.
- When you are back at East, point your finger or wand to the floor and slowly walk widdershins (anti-clockwise), imagining the circle dissolving and fading as you go.
Notes on Wicca:
Notes on Traditional Witchcraft:
Mabon this year takes place on Monday, Sept 23rd. It marks the middle of the harvest cycle – when both the days and nights are of equal length.
The holiday of Mabon was named after a Welsh deity that featured prominently in King Arthur lore. However, some historians dispute that Mabon was ever actually worshiped by the Celts and believe that it is merely a construction of the modern pagan movement.
If you’re looking for a more historical approach to the Autumn Equinox, here’s how some of the ancient Pagans celebrated:
Ancient Rome
The Romans held a festival dedicated to Pomona, goddess of fruits and growing things. The Autumn is also the time of the grape harvest, so while we don’t know too much about the specifics of Roman Autumn Equinox celebrations, we can infer that it most likely included wine.
Ancient Greece
In Ancient Greek mythology, the onset of fall is closely linked to the story of the abduction of Persephone. She was a goddess who was abducted from her mother, harvest goddess Demeter, and taken to the underworld to become the wife of Hades, the god of the underworld.
Norse Paganism
Bonfires, feasting and dancing played a large part at Equinox celebrations. Villagers would cast the bones of the slaughtered cattle upon the flames, cattle having a prominent place in the pre-Christian Germanic world. (Etymology derives the English word “bonfire” from these “bone fires,”) With the bonfire ablaze, the villagers extinguished all other fires. Each family then lit their hearth from the common flame, thus bonding the families of the village together.
Historically the Pendulum has had a lot of different uses. During the Vietnam war, the pendulum was used by soldiers to locate underground mines and tunnels while in France doctors used pendulums to help with diagnosing illnesses and some even used the pendulum to predict the gender of their unborn babies. Today, Pendulums are mostly used as simple divinatory tools to answer yes/no questions.
Pendulums come in different shapes and sizes. Some have a brass tip, silver tip, and some a crystal or stone tip. There are also those that come with small chambers where you can add substances like herbs, oils, and incense powder.
You should have a clear state of mind before you use the pendulum. Begin by taking the knot or the lock in between your thumb and your pointer finger. Take deep breaths and ask it to signal “yes” or “no.” It is best to establish the movements for yes/no before you start asking questions. Generally, if a pendulum moves in a clockwise motion or a front and back swing it’s a yes and a counterclockwise motion or a left and right motion it’s a no. Focus on the question you want to ask and when your mind is clear, state your question and observe the movement of the pendulum for your answer.

For Beeswax Candles all you’ll need is:
- a sheet of beeswax
- a knife and scissors
- a wick for the candle
Steps:
- use the knife to cut a thin triangle on two sides of the beeswax sheet so that one side will be slightly longer than the other. (This is so the top of the candle will be tapered)
- Cut a length of wick for the candle. (Be sure to leave a little extra for the part where you will light the candle.)
- Press the wick along the long-side of the beeswax.
- Slowly roll the sheet up

Dionysus is the god of the grape-harvest, winemaking and wine, of fertility, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre.
Dionysus was believed to have been born from the union of Zeus and Persephone, and to have himself represented a cthonic or underworld aspect of Zeus. Many believed that he had been born twice, having been killed and reborn as the son of Zeus and the mortal (Princess of Thebes) Semele.
The earliest written records of Dionysus worship come from Mycenaean Greece dated to around 1300 BC. Wine played an important role in Greek culture, and the cult of Dionysus was the main religious focus surrounding its consumption.
Performance art and drama were also central to his religion, and its festivals were the initial driving force behind the development of theatre.
